16 Jan Vodafone celebrate bumper festive season
Christmas and New Year are already starting to feel like a distant memory for most of us but for many commercial organisations now is the time to look back, analyse and reflect on performance over the festive period.
One telecoms company that is currently celebrating its performance over the Christmas holiday period is Vodafone. The mobile communications giant which is popular with our business customers on the Vodafone One Net service, recorded its busiest festive season yet.
Vodafone’s Christmas & New Year Success
Christmas is a time for family and friends and as might be expected data usage on New Year’s Eve was a high point. A staggering 81% increase compared to the same period last year is an incredible result for Vodafone. Data usage rose to 342TB for the 12 hour period between 4PM on December 31 and 4AM on January 1, with the busiest hour unsurprisingly being between midnight and 1am.
Total data usage over on Christmas increased annually by 38% to 359TB. According to the mobile network more than 4.6 million text messages were sent on Christmas day.
Vodafone have also realised information on the key events during 2016 which led to increases in data usage. Some of them might surprise you. Here’s the top five
- The 1all draw between Manchester United and Leicester City on May 1st
- The Wimbledon men’s singles tennis final on July 10th
- GCSE results day on August 25th
- Manchester United’s 4-1 win over Leicester City on September 24th
- The Great British Bake Off final on October 26th
